Embrace the Magic

This isn't about fairy-tale magic; it's about the magic of everyday life.

I woke up recently to the sunlight glinting off of my car outside the open slit in my bedroom window. That was a pleasant surprise, since rain was forecast for the day. Magic!

When I walked into the kitchen to make coffee, I looked through the kitchen window and thought to myself "What a great day for a run!" It wasn't so much that it was sunny, as I don't like to run when it's too hot. Rather, it was that the sky was that deep blue that comes after a good rain and was sprinkled with fluffy white clouds. That was not only beautiful but it meant that the colors outside would be clear and bright and the air would be fresh. Truly a magical day!

Magic isn't only about the weather. It was also magical that the knee I tweaked before the run felt better after the run and that I got an "I love you" from my nephew. That last one isn't that rare, but it still feels magical when it happens :).

One could say that none of those things are really all that magical. They are, after all, everyday experiences. You can treat them that way if you like. However, if you look at them as magical, they can transform your regular day into a magical one and make you feel like you're thriving instead of just surviving. So, give it a try. What have you got to lose?
